When a king requested a beggar to teach him how he was able to develop such a high level of motivation in obeying Allah (s.w.t) and overcome his worldly forbidden temptations. The beggar told him to kidnap a fruit seller from the street, put him in a totally separate room of jail, provide him all the forbidden luxuries including the most beautiful prostitute of that time. Tell her if she is able to convince him to have an immoral relationship at night, she would be given a lot of money in the morning. After providing all these facilities, tell the fruit seller that his neck would be cut in the morning irrespective of the choices he makes that night....
When the fruit seller saw that all his request and crying has no effect on the king, he sat at one corner of the room and started praying with tears in his eyes and begging Allah (s.w.t) for forgiveness. All night the woman tried to seduce him but he kept telling her angrily to move away from him.
In the morning the king saw that the fruit seller had not even touched any single forbidden luxury. He set the fruit seller free and realized the secret of that beggar's high level of obedience towards Allah (s.w.t).

You are a drop of which ocean?
When I couldn't find that book from all the book stores in Islamabad, finally I couldn't hide my frustration from the shopkeeper, "All the bookstores have these magazines of women without clothes displayed outside the shop. Is it too difficult to also put few morally good books besides these immoral ones ?"
The reply was enough for me to leave the shop quietly with an embarrassed look on my face.
"We bring on demand. The more is the demand of any particular book, the more we bring copies of it. The book you are asking, we haven't got any demand for that."
The ocean of us (users) make the market of movies, books and audio CDs, not the shopkeepers, yet hypocrites like me get some guts to blame others for the misery of our own mannerism and way of thinking. What we feed in our minds through our eyes and ears determines our loyalties and effect the out put of our thoughts and actions (and attitude towards our duties in life)

A medicine for the most common mental disease
This disease lives in the mind of most people (with varying percentages) in the form of two thoughts:
1. I wish I had not done this & that, but had done this and that in my past life.
2. I have a fear of unknown for the bad events that are waiting for me in my future life.
A scholar gave a good medicine for this disease:
"You cannot change the past, but you can ruin a perfectly good present by worrying about the future. Try your level best to do whatever is within your control and leave the rest to Allah (s.w.t)"

The man who was not sure if Allah liked him
Once a very old man who had spent a pious and clean life was offering his prayers when the devil put a question in his mind,
"All your friends spent their youth experiencing all the forbidden luxuries of life, but you refrained from all those forbidden things, BUT still you have absolutely no idea if you are still liked by Allah and deserve heaven. What if Allah (s.w.t) didn't like all your good deeds, and He like one good deed of your friends, due to which all of them might enter heaven and you might enter hell. You might have wasted all your life because Allah never communicated to you in any way that might indicate His approval and acceptance of your deeds"
This thought made the old man so depressed that before sleeping he only offered the obligatory prayers and didn't do usual "zikr" of Allah"
In his dream he heard a voice from "Ghaib" (unknown) "Why didn't you do zikr tonight ?"
He replied, "I was so confused and got depressed by thinking that I still don't know if Allah likes me or not, may be all my good deeds are not good enough to be accepted in front of Him"
The reply came. "The name of Allah is very pure and honorable and only sincere people with a pure heart deserve to recite His name with their tongue. If Allah had disliked your deeds and were you not sincere enough, He would not have given you the "Tawfeeq" (permission) to recite the name Allah by your tongue. Till the time you are able to praise Allah and recite his attributes with your tongue, be assured that Allah is so happy with you that he allowed you to take His name with your tongue"

True test of a character

You haven't seen something like that before". As he knew his class fellow was not a person with a good reputation so he wanted to reject but as he was in a hurry and could not come up with an excuse, he accepted it.
He soon realized it was a movie, his sixth sense warned him of something wrong. His heart was beating very hard, a voice inside him was warning him to stop but the intense curiosity took hold of him. Suddenly he pressed the escape button but it was too late. His eyes had already caught the glimpse of something. Something evil but exciting. He was siting there thinking if he should continue in order to get rid of boredom and pass the time, or should he just stop. By now he had understood what the CD was all about. He knew Allah had blessed him with a lot of respect due to which he enjoyed the reputation of a pious person among his friends and family. But now it was the real test of his character, as developing a good impression in front of people around him was easy, but he couldn't deceive the angels and jins watching him. He would feel ashamed of taking any such step in front of his parents, relatives and friends but the questions to be answered was,
Was he ashamed of doing such an act when he knew the ultimate lord (who matters the most) is watching him ?
If he took this step now, the devil might dare to go in front of Allah (s.w.t) and ask, "Is he the same pious person You liked a lot ?"

Though I understand that this topic is debatable for a lot of cases mentioned, but I still don't think any nation in the world can excel by only praying and not working hard enough, as is the case of a lot of Muslims in the present age. On the other hand some Muslims think only working is sufficient and regular prayers are not necessary, which is also equally wrong.
